Maharani is a project aimed at helping girls-at-risk aged from 13 – 16 years old. This project, themed ‘The Princess in You’, aims to nurture strong personal foundations in young women that will help them embrace their future in more positive ways.
Maharani involves a series of camps that will be conducted in a different state each month, with the aim of covering the whole of Peninsular Malaysia.
Maharani focuses on five components:
* Gender, ethnicity and culture
* Reproductive health and sexuality
* Physical, mental and spiritual health
* Dream building
* Recreational activities and teambuilding
The theme for Maharani was ‘Teen Pilot Programme’. This is to make the students understand that life is as complex as flying a plane. The many instruments and dials can be compared to the many qualities and skills that we need to have, in order to operate the plane, fly and land it safely at the intended destination.
Maharani’s Teen Pilot Programme’s aim was to teach teenagers how to manage their life by learning the skills & knowledge, so that they will be able to apply this to fly high in life and to reach their life’s goals & destinations. In short, this programme provided participants the platform to experience the lessons that would be needed to pilot one’s own life.
A total of 1205 girls took part in this programme from various schools across Negeri Sembilan, Perak, Pahang, Selangor, Kedah, Pulau Pinang, Wilayah Persekutuan and Johor Bahru.
Maharani is a wholesome learning program for girls encompassing life skills to empower them to become holistic women. We at Vijayaratnam Foundation truly believe that with more support from the government and other like-minded corporations, this project will be able to reach its maximum impact in the transformation of girls throughout the nation.
