In line with the foundation’s pillar in support of children with special needs, QI Group’s Quest International University Perak (QIUP) recently visited the Handicapped Children’s Welfare Home. About 30 QIUP staff took part in this Staff Social Responsibility (SSR) activity, during which they volunteered to clean and re-paint the home ahead of the Chinese New Year celebrations.

The home has been established since 1993 and is located on Jalah Haji Eusoff in Ipoh, Perak. Currently, it accommodates about 60 children with a sizable monthly operational cost of RM7,000. Hence, the home relies on contributions from corporations, NGOs and the general public for financial sustainability.

On the morning of the visit, volunteers were blessed with sunny weather as they gathered at QIUP’s futsal court for a quick briefing. After that, the volunteers made their way on foot to the home which was located in the same vicinity as QIUP. Upon arrival, volunteers got to work swiftly and with their combined effort, were able to spruce up the home in several hours. Judging from the smiles on the children’s faces, the freshened home interior and façade had resulted in a brighter and happier environment.

Through this activity, QIUP staff also gained a better understanding of challenges faced by handicapped children. Dr. Kamariah Hasan, QIUP Senior Lecturer who participated in the SSR commented, “I was very humbled at the opportunity to be a part of this noble cause. I had a fun mingling with the children and helping to clean and re-paint the home. It was very gratifying to see the smiling faces of the residents who were so glad that we visited them.”

QIUP’s contribution was much appreciated by the home, its Chairman remarked, “Right now, most people are tied up with their own Chinese New Year preparations. However QIUP has taken the time to come forward and help us. Thank you providing us with a joyous environment to celebrate the upcoming Chinese New Year.”
