February 25, Kuala Lumpur – QI Malaysia staff teamed up with Cancer Associates & Kindred Network (CAKNE) in a Master Chef event to promote healthy, tasty and easy to prepare meals by and for children battling cancer. Partnering with the Ronald McDonalds Charity House and Pertubuhan Ikram Malaysia (IKRAM), 15 QI volunteers assisted participants with preparing the meals and helped serve guests during the Master Chef CAKNE event. QNET CEO Mr. Trevor Kuna also joined volunteers at the event.

Thanks to the Vijayaratnam Foundation, CAKNE received RM1,500 in contribution to continue supporting children fighting cancer and their families. The little master chefs received gift hampers from the Foundation. CAKNE’s founder Mr. Mohd Shah Awaluddin thanked QI for supporting Master Chef CAKNE and making it such a fun event for the children.

CAKNE is a support group for children with cancer, receiving treatment at Hospital University Kebangsaan Malaysia and their families. The group was established in 2008 by parents of children diagnosed with cancer to provide patients with financial assistance for treatment and actively carries out campaigns to spread awareness on childhood cancer.

As part of the event, 10 other volunteers additionally visited homes of families supported by CAKNE. Volunteers were divided into three groups to visit homes in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur and Ampang in Selangor to distribute groceries sponsored by the Vijayaratnam Foundation. A volunteer who joined in the food distribution, Dina Kaliyeva said “It was an eye opener for me, I never knew that there were so many families in Kuala Lumpur city who are going through such a difficult time. We get to go home to so much more than they do, and yet we sometimes we complain about we have,” said the QI staff from Kazakhstan.
